A unique voice in the world of Public Relations

I've always been good at connecting with people through conversation. It wasn't until later in my life when I realized my love and talent for writing. The two of them work independently in my life, and help me navigate through the crazy world that is Public Relations.

Experience

Since the fall of 2017 I have been surrounded by Marketing, Journalism, and Public Relations in one way or another. Even in classes/situations where these were not the main component I was able to, unknowingly, build skills from them that I use today.

Willems Marketing & UW Oshkosh PR Campaign

A year long marketing internship where I learned the basics of the marketing world. It was something I was hesitant of, but now, three years later, I am beyond grateful for the skills and opportunities I collected over the year long endeavor. Over the year I worked on projects of all sorts; a campaign for Appleton International Airport, Fox Valley Memory Foundation, and I even earned my radio advertising certification.

During a semester-long internship with the UW Oshkosh journalism department I worked on and promoted a rebranding. As a member of the events team I organized events where I presented to, and spoke with, prospective students about the departments offerings. My team and I created engaging presentations and helped rewrite the department book.

Work and School

I have worked a number of different jobs. Mainly working in grocery stores and restaurants I found the my ability to connect, converse, and problem solve with people was a talent I didn't use as much as I should. In school I demonstrated my writing skills through various elective/required classes; I was able to develop a unique style and voice in my writing, and it has helped me express my thoughts efficiently and comprehensively.

Goals

Keeping a mental log of goals is something that I always do as a tool to fuel my motivation. I have both personal and professional goals. First and foremost, to graduate next year with a degree in PR, and following that, landing a job in PR after graduation. A goal I have for this spring is to have an internship for this coming summer. Personally, I hope to construct a blog by the time summer rolls around. One where I detail and discuss unique encounters in life, how the encounters occurred, and what I made of them. Another goal I have is to continue progressing in Spanish, and to be able to use it professional and work related settings.
